The Parade of Hearts (POH) is a community-based initiative that illuminates a pathway in which people can envision a new normal and bring healing to communities using artistic expression. After experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, and social justice tensions, interventions that center on healing, wellness, and community are needed.

POH is an art installation project featuring ten (10) five-foot fiberglass hearts designed by community members working with local artists. This restorative initiative will be a driving force for implementing change and transformation in predominately minority communities experiencing the greatest hardship. POH will launch in the following communities: Chatham, Douglas, Grand Boulevard, Greater Grand Crossing, Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, South Shore, Washington Park, and Woodlawn. To advance equity in the arts, POH will not only provide community healing but enhance the quality of life for each neighborhood by driving economic activity through tourism.

Now more than ever, the Love, Unity & Values (LUV) Institute’s programming and services are essential to restoring the present by reconciling the past and envisioning a new normal through art.
